Money! What is it good for?  Money! Is it good or bad?  Some would say it makes the world go round, it takes money to make money, money is power, while others would say you cannot buy happiness with money.  The bible says the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. (1 Timothy 6:10)

The question of what is money good for or is it bad or good is still not answered.  In order to answer this question it is important to consider a few things before one can truly answer these questions.  First off money as amoral, it is neither good or bad.  It is a neutral substance.  By itself it can accomplish nothing good or bad, it takes someone to use it for a purpose that will result in a designated outcome of good or bad.

When money is used to help someone or in a way that improves or helps a situation then it can be seen as good.  On the other hand if it is used to in a way that is not good or harmful then it can be seen as bad.  When money is esteemed in ones heart and elevated to that place of a god it becomes a bad thing for that individual.  When an individual never loses perspective of money being nothing more than a resource to achieve a greater good for others and them self then it is good for that person because they are in control and not being controlled by this stuff called money.

If you stop and think about it, this stuff called money is a funny substance.  It is illusive and often impossible to make, while others seem to have the innate ability to make it more easily than others.  When one is able to let go and not hoard it, it has little if any attachment and one is free to go about making more.  When one tries to hang on to it and not focus on doing good with it then becomes that illusive material corrupts the heart and often embitters the individual who is attempting to hold on to it.

Money can be a negotiated material given in exchange for a portion of one’s life.  This type of transaction is most often seen in that thing we call a job.  It what we do with it from there that makes the difference.  If one goes and gives a portion, say 10% to a charity or their church then that portion of one’s life goes on to help others.  Not only do the people who are recipients benefit and feel good but the giver feels good also and it does the heart good.

Money is a raw resource that can achieve both good and bad, negative and positive, as well as make people feel good and or bad.  It is up to the individual holding the dollars at the moment who will determine how this raw resource gets transformed.  The answer to the question is really up to you and your understanding and choice.

There is nothing wrong with making money and investing energy in doing so. What one needs to be cautioned against is allowing one’s self to become consumed by the constant prospect of making it.  What is important is making sure there is a reinvestment of it into the betterment and lives of others.  Do something good for someone today, if feels good and is good for you.
